      <description>Users with accounts hosted on our expms2 message server are unable to access their Express Email due to a system crash on expms2. Like previous system crashes in June, tonight's crash appears to be the result of SAN timeouts. The SAN timeouts are likely the result of SAN fibre switches that cannot handle the load we're placing on them. Our plan is to continue doing what we can to reduce load on the SAN while pressing for the funding required to procure enterprise level fibre switches for our SAN.&lt;p&gt;UPDATE: As of 12:35 AM, expms2 is up with all services running.</description>

      <description>The Pinnacle Service is down at this time.  The Pinnacle Support team is looking into the problem.

During this outage Pinnacle customers will be unable to view billing details or submit requests for changes to their services. Students, faculty, and staff will still be able to submit service change requests, but will not be able to view their individual billing details.

This outage will affect the following Pinnacle service sub-applications:
* WebTSR
* Pinnacle Advanced Reporting
* Pinnacle Customer Portal
* Pinnacle Graphical Interface

This outage may affect the following CITES customers:
* Department Business Managers (Advanced Reporting &amp; WebTSR)
* Department Telecomm Coordinators (Advanced Reporting &amp; WebTSR)
* Students, faculty, and staff (Customer Web Portal)
* CITES Customer Service (Pinnacle Graphical Interface)
* CITES Business Office (Pinnacle Graphical Interface)&lt;p&gt;UPDATE: The outage was due to a problem with the CITES Storage infrastructure which now appears to be functioning normally.  Pinnacle was restarted and appears to be functioning normally also.  All sub-applications should be up as well.  If you experience any problems please report them to cites-bis-l@listserv.illinois.edu or phone 244-4136.</description>

      <title>[CLOSED] 07/01/08 08:00 Spam Control Performance Testing</title>

      <description>CITES will be carrying out performance testing on the Spam Control service from 
8 am to 3pm on Tuesday, July 1. During this time, email filter capacity will be 
reduced by approximately 30%, and system performance will be observed. This 
work is being done in preparation for an upcoming CSC software upgrade. CITES 
anticipates no noticeable user impact.&lt;p&gt;UPDATE: At approximately 10:30am high load conditions were observed on the Spam 
Control filters. The disabled capacity was brought back online, and the load 
condition quickly resolved itself. Some users may have noticed brief mail delays 
between 10:25am and 10:35am. This test has been concluded.</description>

      <description>QuickConnect and VPN services on Walkup will be unavailable to part of campus on Tuesday 7/01/08 from 6:30am to 7:00am while we replace the server servicing QuickConnect users. Users in some areas will not see the QuickConnect login page nor be able to use VPN on Walkup during this time.

Wireless users of QuickConnect and VPN will not be affected during this change.&lt;p&gt;UPDATE: Scheduled changes made to QuickConnect and VPN services on Walkup. Please report any problems related to this to the CITES Operations Center 4-1000 or the CITES Help Desk 4-7000.</description>

      <description>On July 1st at 7 AM, the max message size on the mail relays will be increased from 30 MB to 65 MB.  This increase is to enable more departments to use CITES Spam Control.

Additionally, the max message size limit on CITES Express Email and CITES Exchange will be increased from 30 MB to 65 MB.  Keeping the Express Email and Exchange limits in sync with the message size limit on the relays makes our systems easier to understand and support.

      <description>The listserv server name will be changed to listserv.illinois.edu on Jun. 28, 2008 at 8AM. You should only notice the Sender, To, and depending on the reply-to setting of your list, the Reply-to email headers change in your list mail. They currently advertise listname@listserv.uiuc.edu and this will change to listname@listserv.illinois.edu. Messages posted to listname@listserv.uiuc.edu will continue to be accepted.

The web interface to listserv will also change to http://listserv.illinois.edu . If you try to reach the old request forms site at https://listserv.uiuc.edu/request-form.html, which is a secured site, you will receive an error indicating the certificate does not match the new server name. This is to be expected and you can accept this or use the new server address.

      <title>[CLOSED] 06/26/08 23:45 Express Email service interruption for some users</title>

      <description>Some users are currently unable to access their Express Email accounts. This interruption in service is only affecting those with accounts hosted on our expms2 message server.

At 11:45 PM tonight (6/26) our expms2 message server experienced a type of system crash that usually occurs as an aftereffect of a previous system crash. Due to the way expms2 recovered from the 6/23/08 system crash (caused by SAN timeouts), expms2 appears to have encountered a filesystem inconsistency that led to this second crash.

We expect expms2 to be up and running normally by 1:00 AM.&lt;p&gt;UPDATE: expms2 was restored to normal operations by 12:45 AM on Friday June 27. We've sent diagnostic data to our email system vendor for analysis.</description>
